THE GREEN CAR MOTEL have been holed up at Brando's Paradise Recording Studio putting the final touches on their official debut release cd due out this summer. The cd which is being produced by John Avila,The Green CAr Motel and Cisco DeLuna is deeply rooted in the landscapes and sounds of the Southwest. "This cd celebrates where we come from, where we've been and where we're at today", states lead singer Rick Garcia. "We came to realize that in capturing the tone of this particular cd we were going to have to build a bridge that extended from our hometown of San Diego, Texas to Los Angeles where we currently live". "John and Cisco really did seem like the most likely choice to help us achieve the sound and vibe we wanted". "They're both so amazing at what they do and bring so much to the table". "They really understand what we're about" states Garcia.
Six of the twelve songs are in Spanish and feature numerous guests such as Jacob Valenzuela of CALEXICO on trumpet and Craig Eastman on Violin. Other instruments that can be found on the cd are Lap Steele Guitar, Charango, Accordion, Dobro and a slew of other interesting sounds. "It's been about keeping it organic as well as embracing and celebrating our musical heritage". states Reyes.
THE GREEN CAR MOTEL were heavily featured in director Michael Mann's 2004 film COLLATERAL(Dreamworks) starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx. The song "Destino de Abril" served as the end title theme song. "Emails poured in from all over the world" recalls Garcia. "The response was truly overwhelming". "Even though the song was sung in Spanish it seemed to resonate and carry with it a wide crossover appeal". However, due to both Garcia's busy songwriting schedule and Reyes hectic touring schedule recording for TGCM would be postponed for a couple of years.
